Thanks to all for comments. I like to add a few words. It is natural corridor between mountains and winds are coming from east to west (along 10 freeway) I saw occasionally pretty strong sandy wind...

Have seen them from different angles, but this viewpoint is a first. One reason they work so well in Palm Springs, is that the combination of the desert and mountains generate their own wind. As the desert warms it makes air rise, as it rises the prevailing winds push it towards the mountains. As the mountains ten to block or make the wind rise higher, and go through the passes, it compresses the air, which increases the speed of the wind... turning the windmills faster. The ones on the hills begin turning first, as they are higher in the windstream. V, F, W....
